The Black Lace Panties Triangle
All my feelings about this reading are confusing. I was confused why ken could have a so strong lust on Barbie, and why ken refused to hear and think about Barbie’s ideas. Somehow, the end of this short story is also hard to understand— why ken felt disappoint with Barbie’s reasonable refuse, why he left her with the black lace panty, and why he disappeared in Barbie’s life forever? I really cannot understand boys’ ideas and why they could addict to sex so deeply without caring about their lovers’ opinions. Facing this kind of boyfriends, what girls should do?

The Elephant and the Ice-cream
“I was ashamed of my mother’s body-ashamed to bring her to school functions, ashamed to be identified with her. I wanted a mother like one of the neighborhood girl’s: slim, perky, friendly and glamorous, with store-bought clothes and make up; not obese, angry…..”
I like this paragraph and it functions as a landmark in the article. After speaking out the dissatisfaction or shame about obesity, Loolva’s life seems completely changed due to her mother’s dramatic weight lose. Also, the following stories become bright and positive. We can know it were her mother’s actions that decide Loolva’s physical and psychological activities. She learnt to eat fast and become fat because of “competing” food with her mother. Yet now, she is also “controlling” diet due to her mother’s slim! I like this article’s interesting and happy ending.
Further thinking—almost everyone has the experience that hopes to have a kind of parents or families which could be as “good” as others. Sometime, different kinds of vanities could lead people feel ashamed with their families or themselves; however, “vanities” could either have positive or negative outcomes depending on how people treated it. However, it is for sure that parents’ activities can definitely affect their children.
